Eggshells

LIFTING THE BODY FROM ITS POSITION AS ‘SUBJECT', AND USING IT INSTEAD AS A MALLEABLE AND FLESHY DESCRIPTION OF THE HEAVINESS OF BEING, EGGSHELLS IS A KIND OF DIARY. aN ARCHIVE OF PORTRAITS ACROSS DRAWING AND CERAMICS THAT SPANS FOUR YEARS, EACH WORK IS THE FRUIT OF INTUITION, PLUCKED FROM MY MOST VULNERABLE MOMENTS, AND OFFERED TENDERLY TO THE AUDIENCE.

A COLLECTION OF WORKS SCATTERED BETWEEN FOLDERS, DIARIES, SKETCH BOOKS AND THE CORNERS OF FLY-AWAY PAGES, THEY COME TOGETHER LESS AS A BODY OF WORK AND MORE AS A FAMILY TREE- DISTANT OR CLOSE BUT ALL CONNECTED BY SOME INVISIBLE THREAD, AND GATHERED ON THE WALLS AS IF IN REUNION.

EGGSHELLS HONOURS FRAGILITY AND LEANS INTO THE EXPERIENCE OF FEELING DELICATE. IT LOOKS TO THE BODY AS A MEANS OF EXPRESSING, OR TRANSLATING, THE COMPLEX WEB OF INTANGIBLE CONSCIOUSNESS THAT IT CARRIES. THE WORKS ARE NOT SELF PORTRAITS PER SE, BUT RATHER BECOME LOVE CHILDREN BORNE FROM THE INTERSECTION OF THOUGHT AND FEELING- NEW GHOSTS BORN FROM THE WOMB OF THE MIND.

AS A COLLECTION OF WORK, EGGSHELLS ALWAYS CARRIED PARTICULAR WEIGHT TO ME AS AN INTIMATE REPRESENTATION OF SELF. THE SENTIMENTAL VALUE OF THIS EXHIBITION HAS EXPONENTIALLY GROWN THROUGH THE PRODUCTION OF THIS EXHIBITION, HOWEVER, AS THE LOSS OF A CLOSE FRIEND REINFORCED ITS ATTENTION TO THE IMMENSE WEIGHT OF LIVING. EGGSHELLS IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF PAOLO. TO HIS VIBRANT ENERGY, VAST CAPACITY TO LOVE AND NURTURE, AND HIS TIRELESS DEDICATION TO FIGHT FOR EQUALITY IN ALL FACETS OF LIFE.
